A crew of four from AMFM Magazine visited Geraldine’s Jazz Brunch on Sunday, March 13th and spoke with Music Director Lauren Bucherie. Austin’s first Kimpton restaurant, Geraldine’s restaurant is located in the Rainey Street District at 605 Davis Street on the 4th floor of the Hotel Van Zandt. Open only six months, the eatery/music venue has managed to cultivate quite a buzz. Part of that has to do with a marriage of a certain music and culinary aesthetic, curated respectively by Bucherie, and Executive Chef Frank Mnuk. The music and the menu is fresh, contemporary and inspired by the Austin vibe. The room is spacious with gorgeous warm accoutrements, and the hotel pool has a nice surprise – a special underwater playlist. In fact, there are different playlists in various open spaces throughout the hotel, not including the live stage in the restaurant proper.

After Bucherie described what made Geraldine’s such a hot spot so quickly, we were served the Jazz Brunch menu along with great music from Geraldine’s Jazz Band.  Among other things, we tried the Smoked Short Rib Tacos, Salt Roasted Beets (YUM!), Brioche French Toast, The Duck Egg (Seriously – DELISH!) and decided they were among the finest Austin had to offer. We finished our meal with Mimosas and coffee. Consensus:We will be back, if only to stick our heads in the pool and hear the underwater playlist.  Geraldine’s excels for their choices and presentation, and is an excellent place to take a date.

The bar offers a wide array of specialty cocktails from Chief of Bar Operations Jennifer Keyser, including: the Mellow Yellow with Yellow Chartreuse, Dolin blanc, lemon juice, soda and agave, and the Sunday Bloody Sunday featuring Vida mezcal, seasonal sangrita with a chili-lime salt rim.
