Christine Thompson talks to Gloria Gaynor about her new book “We Will Survive.”  Ms. Gaynor presented a select audience in Austin, Texas with excerpts from her the book  at the Gibson Guitar Showroom in Austin Texas.  Texas Grammy Chapter President Theresa Jenkins asked questions about Gaynor’s life and career. The appreciative audience was treated to a rendition of “I Will Survive,” accompanied by her Gaynor’s musical director Mark Baron on piano.



Gloria Gaynor’s #1 hit single “I Will Survive” debuted in 1978 to overwhelming success. Shortly thereafter, the single went double platinum and over three decades later still strikes a chord among men and women everywhere.

In 1978 fate struck in both tragic and triumphant ways for a young singer named, Gloria Gaynor. After a long and painful recovery from a spinal injury and extensive surgery, Gloria returned to the studio and recorded a then unknown original song entitled, “I Will Survive.” She instantly created an anthem of hope and empowerment for people all over the world.

Gloria relates, “Over the years I have been told countless stories regarding the wonderful effects ‘I Will Survive’ has had on people.” In the wake of the song’s success, messages of relief and happiness poured in from fans all over the world.
