Austin’s Newest Bar & Venue to Celebrate Opening January 23 with Special Performance by Asleep at the Wheel

(AUSTIN, TX) January 20, 2012 — Award-winning restaurateur Kevin Williamson, entrepreneur Matt Luckie and Asleep at the Wheel front man Ray Benson announce the grand opening of the Rattle Inn Featuring Ray’s Backstage. Located between the iconic Ranch 616 and Star Bar in the popular West Sixth Street District, the Rattle Inn has it all: live music, outdoor patios and a great downtown Austin scene.

“The Rattle Inn completes a long held dream of mine to make the block of Nueces Street from 6th to 7th an Austin destination,” says owner Williamson. “Locals and those visiting Austin can dine at Ranch 616, have happy hour at Star Bar and hear music at the Rattle Inn without leaving the block.”

Austin-area designer Joel Mozersky of One Eleven Design worked with the team to create a new take on the décor with midcentury modern, Palm Desert-style design for the space. Large snakeskin booths, taxidermy and a custom mural decorate the one-of-a-kind venue which is divided into three areas; the Rattle Inn Main Bar, Ray’s Backstage featuring Benson’s personal memorabilia and an intimate stage to host a variety of live music acts, and the rooftop lounge which overlooks the beautiful Austin skyline.

“I’m really excited to be involved with a venue that highlights Texas music. I hope Ray’s Backstage will be a place where musicians come to relax, play music, and have fun,” says Benson. “I’m also happy about having a home to display the 40 years worth of music memorabilia I’ve collected.”

Grand opening festivities to kick off on Monday, January 23 with live music from Asleep at the Wheel (tickets available via eventbrite.com) and other acts throughout the week. Ray’s Backstage will host everything from nationally renowned acts to two-stepping lessons and open mic nights.

“This team is the best I have worked with. I am thrilled to be a part of a place that I am certain will become an Austin treasure,” says Luckie.

Created by prominent Texas entrepreneurs, Williamson and Luckie, along with Benson, the cocktail, beer and wine offerings were designed with consideration of the city’s cultural influences and Austin flavor. The Rattle Inn will offer eclectic drinks such as their signature cocktail the Texas Heat, Ranch 616 favorites like Ranch Water, and a shot named Lady Bird after a Texas great. The drinks reflect a new approach to traditional Texas spirits with gourmand western as inspiration as well as wine by the full and half bottle and local craft beer on tap.
