Sarah Silverman and Friends brought Ian to do a show at the Paramount Theatre in Austin Texas to protest Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry with a provocatively titled live comedy show in Perry’s home state. Ian was recruited by Sarah, along with Suli McCullough, Tig Notaro, Dwayne Kennedy, and W Kamau Bel. Ian was born in England and has lived in Jamaica, New York, and California. When he was 21, he stopped working the drive thru at Burger King to try his hand at comedy. Since then he’s appeared on Def Comedy Jam (twice), The Conan O’Brien Show, The George Lopez Show, and Show Time at the Apollo. He’s written for Saturday Day Night Live, the Lyricist Lounge show on MTV, The Boondocks for the Cartoon Network, and is currently a cast member of the fifth season of Punk’d on MTV. Silverman marshaled fellow comics for this fund-raiser titled, “Live From N*****head: Stripping The Paint Off Of Good Ol’ Fashioned Racism” because of the controversy over Perry’s West Texas hunting campground where the candidate has entertained friends and supporters. The campground’s former name, “Niggerhead,” was painted on a rock at the entrance for many years. All proceeds from the show were donated to the NAACP.
