A Los Angeles native, Kylee Katch started her career with flair, singing backup vocals on Michael Jackson’s History album. She has performed all over the United States, whether it be fronting an LA indie rock band, singing backup for UK Star Sam Romans, or her recent tour run with Nick Jonas, where she performed in front of 90,000 people at Wembley Stadium. Katch has worked alongside other industry moguls including Mike Clink (Guns N Roses, Heart) and Kim Bullard (Elton John, Colbie Calliat) and has had songs featured on television networks E! and Bravo. Her newest ventures include featuring on two tracks with Morillo and working with her indie-electronic pop group, KARMIC. This dual-female fronted band released their first single, “Higher Self,” in December of 2016.

Questions for Kylee

AMFM: How would you characterize your past year artistically/career-wise?

Kylee Katch: Busy. Eclectic. Exciting. Pushing boundaries.  I am so lucky that music is my full time job.  Job, if I can even say that (laughs).  A lot of things have kicked off in the past year.  I started a new electronic pop band, Karmic, with my dream team.  Being a part of this project allows for full creativity and breaking down walls, and we already have a full album of songs ready to be released.  You can hear our first single “Higher Self,” which is getting radio play in Europe and great reviews from well known blogs. Also this year, I have been writing and featuring on songs in the EDM world. I have two tracks coming out.  The first is a track called “No End” with Erick Morillo and the other track “Cocoon” is with Erick Morillo and artist/producer Andrew Cole.  You can get the first one, “No End,” on March 17th, 2017.

AMFM: Which artist/s, alive or dead, influences you and your career the most?

Kylee Katch: I always find this question so hard to answer, because I literally have been influenced by so many different kinds of music and artists.  My earliest loves I can remember are Madonna, Elvis, and Michael Jackson, who I admire most for their signature style, amazing performance, and breaking barriers.

AMFM: Which artist/s, alive or dead, are looking forward to/hoping to work with the most in the future?

Kylee Katch:There are so many… but off the top of my head…. Amy Winehouse, Sia, Gaga, Ed Sheeran, Madonna, Elvis, MJ, Elton John

AMFM: Harrison Ford would have been a carpenter, Brad Pitt would have been a journalist.  What’s the profession or career your parents want you to have to fall back on?

Kylee Katch:My parents were always very supportive and still are, without being stage parents.  They have jokingly said I should be a lawyer, because of my great debating skills (laughs).  No thank you. But, I have wanted to sing since a very young and they have been right behind me.

AMFM:As has been documented often over the years, it can be hard to keep centered in the entertainment industries – especially when success comes young.  How do you (or plan to) keep your head together and not lose yourself as more and more success comes your way?

Kylee Katch: I have not been an overnight success, I’ve paid my dues, made mistakes, changed paths, and kept going…. And I am still going.  I feel blessed to be able to do what I love each and every day, and I believe that will keep me grounded.  But also super important is the people you surround yourself with, and plan to keep a good circle that will always remind me where I came from.

AMFM: Apart from the field you’re already known for, what other artistic/creative fields are you passionate about and want to explore more of in the future?

Kylee Katch: Fashion, Theater, Film/Acting, making Home décor and furniture.

AMFM: What is your biggest regret or what one thing would you go back and do differently if you had the chance?

Kylee Katch: Taking a break from music and going to college.  I didn’t study music and spent a lot of time studying and partying when I should have been singing, writing, or practicing.  I think education is great, but it distracted me a bit and took my focus away from my passion. Ultimately, every step I have taken has brought me to where I am now, and I am so excited for what’s on the horizon, so I feel I am right where I should be.

AMFM: Beyond the creative/entertainment fields, what moves you/what do you care most about and why?

Kylee Katch: I love spending time with family and friends.  I love traveling, being in nature, doing yoga and keeping fit mentally and physically. I am a huge animal lover.  I think it’s always important to give back, so I make charity a consistent part of my life, but when my time is limited, I try to brighten someone’s day, giving back or paying it forward with good energy.  There is so much political and social turmoil in the world, we all need a bit more love.
