AUSTIN, TX (February 5, 2013) The Paramount and Stateside Theatres are proud to announce an exciting new film program featuring the latest from local filmmakers, critically acclaimed festival favorite indie productions, and insightful speakers. Helmed by Paramount and Stateside Film Programmer Stephen Jannise, these new series and film events seek to further nourish Austin’s independent film scene.

“This is an exciting time to be a lover of films both new and old,” said Jannise. “I’m so thrilled that we will be opening the Stateside doors to independent cinema on a weekly basis. Indie filmmakers are presenting us with more remarkable work than ever before, and in a town like Austin that appreciates indie film, the more access we have to the extraordinarily diverse range of films looking for audiences, the better.”

Among the new developments is the Stateside Independent series, which kicks off February 18th with the Texas premiere of 56 UP, the latest in a series of groundbreaking documentaries from director Michael Apted that began with 1964’s SEVEN UP!. Every Monday night of the series, Stateside will screen the latest from local filmmakers as well as festival favorites from SXSW, Sundance, Tribeca, AFF and many others. Many screenings will host the filmmakers for special introductions and Q&As, allowing them to share their experiences and insight with audiences. They will bring fresh, exciting work from contemporary filmmakers to the theatre, which already has a solid reputation for bringing in the most beloved classics.

The annual Summer Classics Film series will be back, and bigger and better than ever, with both the Paramount and Stateside Theatres screening films six days a week. A Kids Matinee will be added, appealing to families and introducing children to important film landmarks. Another new addition to the series will be guest speakers and guest programmers. From film professors and historians to guest filmmakers who will introduce audiences to the films that inspired their own work.

The Silver Screen Speakers series gives film lovers something else to be excited about. The Paramount and Stateside Theatres will be hosting more conversations and panels along the lines of the Historic Austin Movies Houses panel and the Evening with Spike Lee conversation. These distinguished speakers will discuss everything from the current state of independent filmmaking to film history and preservation and give insightful anecdotes along the way. Silver Screen Speakers to be announced soon.

Plus, life just got a lot sweeter for Paramount Film Fans, who will have access to discounted tickets to all these screenings and special events year-round.
