PHOTOGRAPHER ASHLEY GARMON HOSTS RECEPTION FOR NEWEST EXHIBIT "FAR WEST TEXAS SERIES" NOVEMBER 19th in AUSTIN, TEXAS

THIS Thursday, November 19 from 6:00to 9:00 p.m. at Spartan (215 South Lamar, Suite C & D). All images in this series were shot with her well-traveled HOLGA camera in Far West Texas, beginning at sunrise and ending at the end of civil twilight. Shots included scenes from ranches in the area, from the air in a 1975 Cessna 180J Skywagon with the doors off, and many times just from the side of the road in places like Big Bend National Park, The Davis Mountains, Marathon, Marfa, Terlingua, Alpine, Valentine, and all of the arterial roads that connect the towns of this area.

Inspiration for the series was the ever-changing West Texas sky, the desert landscape, and Ashley’s family history. As a fifth generation Texas, Ashley’s mother’s family settled Barstow and Pecos in the late 1800’s. Ashley has dedicated the entire series to her mother, who was with her when she shot all the photos in the series (with the exception of anything taken from the plane). For Ashley, this is a series that has only just begun and will likely never be over.

Ashley Garmon is a professional photographer based out of Austin, Texas specializing in weddings in addition to shooting fine art photographs for interior spaces. Garmon, trained in the art of film, can be seen regularly with her HOLGA camera, a toy camera made of plastic with a simple meniscus lens yielding photos that display vignetting, blur, light leaks, and other distortions.

Garmon has been published in: Stylish Weddings For Less (Filipacchi Publishing), I Do. Achieving Your Dream Wedding (NVU Productions) and The Knot’s Guide to Vows and Traditions (Random House). Magazine publications include Town & Country Weddings, Modern Bride, US Weekly, The Knot, Brilliant Magazine, Austin Monthly, and Paper City.
