Paul Salfen finds out from Director Thomas Carter what it was like to film WHEN THE GAME STANDS TALL, about the remarkable journey of legendary football coach Bob Ladouceur (Jim Caviezel), who took the De La Salle High School Spartans from a obscurity to a 151 game winning streak that shattered all records for any American sport.
When the streak is broken, and tragedy strikes the team, Coach Lad must teach his players – and the entire town – that it’s not about how you fall, but how you get back up.
It has been called one of the greatest sports stories ever told – but the tale of coaching legend Bob Ladouceur and his team’s incredible run of high school football victories, known as “the streak,” is about far more than the thrill of sports. It is also about a tight-knit band of brothers who came to see, in one tumultuous year of tragedy
and triumph, that winning was never the point. Instead, it was unflagging commitment – commitment to effort, to belief and, most of all, to one another — that drove them, in their most trying season, to aspire to something far greater than any trophy.
The story begins in 2003, just as the Spartans have completed an incredible, record-busting run of 12 straight State Championships and 151 consecutive victories.
With the team’s outstanding Senior Class fielding offers left and right from college football powerhouses, the Juniors are looking forward to their own big year ahead. But
nothing goes as planned. Instead of things coming easy, they are tested by an 2 unpredictable season of devastating personal and team losses. Yet even as the streak
collides with reality, and Ladouceur confronts his own brush with calamity, the team stands together no matter what. Suddenly, they are headed for a comeback aimed not so much at victory as at giving their all for one another.
