The Austin Film Society’s 2018 Texas Film Awards kicked off SXSW 2018 Thursday, March 8, 2018. The annual event took place for the first time at the newly opened AFS Cinema, recently named a Best of Austin Critic’s Pick by The Austin Chronicle. The event had a brand new format, with theater seating for the awards show, and an intimate reception for all guests, which include Honorees Armie Hammer and Paul Thomas Anderson.

“AFS is excited to introduce guests of the Texas Film Awards to the AFS Cinema, the new hub for our artistic programs. With the Cinema, we are able to present an intimate and brand new Texas Film Awards experience in a space that we have created specifically for the benefit of Texas filmmakers and film lovers,” stated Rebecca Campbell, CEO of Austin Film Society.

In addition to announcing the space and venue, the first artwork for the event has been released. Designed by Jennymarie Jemison (Five & Four), the logo and look reference the mid-century film titles work of artist and designer Saul Bass, whose film work can be seen in the title sequences of films such as NORTH BY NORTHWEST, VERTIGO and WEST SIDE STORY.
