Review by Paul Salfen

This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Firestarter, the remake of the 80s horror flick starring Drew Barrymore based on the beloved story by Stephen King. Now starring Zac Efron and featuring none of the things that made the first one appealing, this one is barely a spark, much less a fire. The only appealing thing is that John Carpenter got to do the soundtrack since he missed out on directing the original film when his other film flopped in the 80s. Unfortunately, that’s it. It’s not scary, well acted, or even very appealing in any way unfortunately. It makes you wonder why they bother messing with these reimaginings or remakes if it’s just going to kill the good name and any potential of a franchise. Hopefully this means we’ll get a proper version of this in a couple of decades. Hopefully Stephen King will be around to see it. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK and AMFM Magazine.
