Review by Paul Salfen

This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Three Thousand Years of Longing, the new wildly imaginative film from Mad Max series director George Miller. The story follows a Djinn, played perfectly by Idris Elba, who gets to come out of captivity and is released by a smart and well-read academic, played by the always-amazing Tilda Swinton, who lets the genie out of the bottle so to speak while on a trip to Istanbul and immediately knows better than to fire off three wishes and instead engages the Djinn in friendship, love, and a wealth of stories throughout his time on Earth through the ages. It’s a fascinating and unique take on an age-old story that goes through the gamut of emotions just as it weaves through time. It’s a visually stunning adult fairytale that will stay with you well after the credits roll. It’s absolutely worth seeing on the big screen and getting swept into a world that satisfies the storybook-reading child and the weary but still playful adult in you. That’s it for this week.
