This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. Fresh off of a screening at Fantastic Fest, Posthumous caught audiences off guard with its unique family trauma plus found footage horror that really strikes a nerve with those battling grief while giving a jolt when needed to stay in the genre. The story follows a young woman played by Sophie Lowe that revisits the yearly messages from her mom via a VHS tape wishing her a happy birthday before her passing. She’s sad, her dad is disconnected and empty but she knows there’s more to her mom’s story – and it’s definitely not good. In fact, it’s downright evil. When she finally uncovers the reason beyond what she knew of her mom’s death, it’s opened a doorway to her life. That’s about all that can be said without spoiling it, but it is a road worth going down. Josh Tanner has made an interesting mediation on grief and family trauma (think an evil version of My Life, the devastating old film with Michael Keaton) that will still satisfy genre audiences and give them something to talk about afterwards. Tis the season for a movie like this and it should be notable when released to the general public soon. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM MAGAZINE, and RECRD.
