This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. Streaming now for free on Tubi is Summer With the Guys, a fun indie comedy that deserves a little more attention. It follows 4 college football players that lose their scholarship and face eviction so they meet a madam and get recruited to become strippers so they can try and attend school in the fall. It recalls those fun and slightly raunchy ’80s and 90s comedies that we just don’t see much of anymore, so it’s no surprise that one of the producers brought us the American Pie series. The actors are all somewhat unknown but show a lot of promise here. There are plenty of laughs – even some that are uncomfortable but it ultimately works in a low budget but made with heart kind of way. Director Terrence Green, who starred in the Step Up TV series, goes for broke in his first feature while also starring in it along with Brashaad Maywather, who stars and co-wrote the film. The sequences of the guys trying to learn the dance moves are hilarious and the chemistry between them is appealing. It is exactly what you think it is – it’s a fun, easy weekend watch.
