This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is The Social Reckoning, Aaron Sorkin’s sequel to The Social Network that explores Mark Zuckerberg at the hight of his powers, this time played by Jeremy Strong, replacing Jesse Eisenberg while Sorkin takes over the directorial duties for David Fincher and Alexandre Desplat takes the composition role from Trent Reznor and Atticus Finch. Obviously already the film is different tonally but even without the undeniable talent missing, Jeremy Alan White, Mikey Madison, and Bill Burr add in what is missing and take Sorkin’s pointed script to the right place, hammering down on what happened since social media has infiltrated our world. It’s sad, funny, intriguing, and poignant all at the same time. The story follows the Facebook engineer that became a whistleblower that worked with a Wall Street reporter to reveal the company’s biggest secrets, which includes the knowledge of influence on mental health issues in young people and influence in elections. While Zuckerberg sees Facebook at the corkboard or town hall here, it comes to a head when it affects a big political moment in history. There’s a lot to talk about here but it’s also an entertaining watch with some great performances and razor-sharp dialogue. While it probably won’t have the critical or commercial appeal of the first film, it’s worth getting into as a reminder of why we are where we are in this world of divisiveness and connectivity. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM MAGAZINE, and RECRD.
