This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Creed III, the latest in the Rocky-bred story that follows Adonis Creed (Apollo Creed’s son) throughout his career as a successful boxer. This time directed by star Michael B Jordan and having no trace of Rocky, this one stands on its own as a crowd-pleasing winner that harkens back to those original air-punching days when audiences got all fired up when our heroes fought the worst of the villains. In this case, it’s Creed’s childhood friend Damian, played incredibly by Jonathan Majors, who gets the retired Adonis back in the ring with a little trickery to settle an old score. It’s an engaging and strong entry into the series and even though you might be able to predict the end, it’s worth the journey. The emotional backbone with the ladies: Creed’s wife, Tessa Thomson, mother Phylicia Rashad, and daughter Mila Davis-Kent keep this fighter’s tale well-rounded and give warmth between the brutal cold-blooded fighting scenes. Go see this one on the big screen to hear the crowd go wild. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
