Paul Salfen sits with writer-director Paul Greengrass and Andrew Garfield as The Uprising heads into theaters nationwide on September 11. Greengrass’s first true historical epic — the 1381 Peasants’ Revolt, told through a nameless Essex farmer — was built for spectacle. Greengrass says the more he wrote, the more 1381 sounded like today.
