In a karaoke room at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar, Paul Salfen sat down with the traveling circus behind The Heretiks — director Gregg Bishop, writers Luke Piotrowski and Ben Collins, and the actors who spent Halloween night locked in a house with a coven that wanted sunrise to come too late. The world-premiere tape is a pile of voices: a murder scream that startled Luke into a louder one, six stolen inches on an apple box, a trick-or-treat opening shot five minutes from Bishop’s childhood sidewalks, and a through-the-door scene the director pretended he had cut. Gateway horror, they keep calling it. On the evidence of the room, they also got paid to have a good time.
