Review by Paul Salfen

This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is arguably the biggest movie of the year – well, maybe next to Top Gun: Maverick and that’s Avatar: The Way of Water. This long-in-the-works sequel (going on 14 years now) brings everyone back to that beautiful blue world to follow Jake and his family as they have to fight off a new threat where he must work with the army of Na’vi to fight off more bad humans. If it sounds familiar, it’s because it strikes a lot of similarities to the first film, but then again it’s been a long time. This time it’s just higher quality visually (especially in IMAX and in 3D) but also longer at a whopping 3 hours and 15 minutes. While it is absolutely beautiful and an achievement in effects, the story and characters leave a little to be desired. No doubt director James Cameron is a master filmmaker and knows what audiences want, but a little more wildly original characters or themes and a slightly shorter version would have been even better. But that last hour of action is absolutely why we go to the movies. See it on the biggest screen possible with the best presentation. That’s it for this week.
