Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Jurassic World: Rebirth, yet another reboot of the popular dinosaur franchise that Steven Spielberg started over 30 years ago and although it’s had its ups and downs, it still never achieved the greatness of the original, which is still the case today. In fact, this may be one of the lower points in the franchise. This one follows a scientist and a team of mercenaries that set out to a forbidden remote area to extract the DNA from three kinds of live dinosaurs in order to make a cure for the greater good – with profit in mind first of course. Starring Scarlett Johanssen and Mahershela Ali, this installment gives you the dinosaur action you want in a silly summer popcorn movie but even with a master creature director in Gareth Edwards, it still feels like something is missing – possibly something fresh and new? It seems like it’s just back to the basics here but audiences might be ok with that in the same way they go back to the same restaurants even if the food isn’t how they remember it to be when it first opened. You can watch the trailer and get the idea and probably guess what happens but if you feel like turning off your mind and enjoying some nice buttery popcorn for a couple of hours in a way that memory serves you before with these, you’ll get exactly what you want. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
