This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest film about everyone’s favorite webslinger and sadly, it’s not a very fun time at the movies. It’s a complete tonal shift from the other lighthearted fun superhero flicks and we now have a downer of a story where Peter Parker’s girlfriend and best friend don’t remember him so he’s lonely and off his game, he’s clumsy and his head and heart just aren’t in it in the same way. Along the way, he teams up in an odd couple pairing with a gruff Punisher and fights the Hulk after picking the brain of an off Bruce Banner and runs across a weak version of The Hand, a do-nothing version of Black Widow (she doesn’t even leave the spa), and an angsty Jean Grey that’s not in hero mode. Basically, we get everyone you like when they aren’t at their best. That said, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Sadie Sink do sell it well, but it’s just a chore – and at two and a half hours, it’s way too long. It could have been a tight hour and 45. Strange to think that this came from the same team that brought us the other more enjoyable installments but everyone has had a bad day – even if a brand new day – including the viewer so take the opinion for what it is – an opinion that no matter how popular – it was the least enjoyable Spidey yet. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM MAGAZINE, and RECRD.
