This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is Super Mario Galaxy, the colorful high energy sequel to The Super Mario Bos Movie with Chris Pratt and Charlie Day as Mario and Luigi rounded out with Anja Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Jack Black as Bowser. This time Mario ventures into space into the Mushroom Kingdom and Donald Glover as Yoshi, and Bennie Safdie as Bowser Jr enter the game. It’s a big, loud fan service fiesta that will be fun for kids and fans of the games and it pretty much sticks to that target market. Otherwise it’s the Red Bull and pixi stix version of a film – manic and high energy with little substance but all in good fun. In this short attention span theater, we get all of the characters from the universe who all get their hero moments and we even get the nostalgia of seeing the old games with the old music and sound effects here and there. It won’t win any awards or be considered a classic but it’s very much of its time and is exactly what you expect and there’s something to be said for that. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM MAGAZINE, and RECRD.
