Alan Paige Lightman is an American physicist, writer, and social entrepreneur, best known for his exploration of the intersection between science and the humanities. With a distinguished career that includes faculty positions at Harvard University and MIT, he was one of the first to hold a joint position in both fields. Lightman’s work delves into the dialogue between science, philosophy, religion, and spirituality, and he serves on the United Nations’ Scientific Advisory Board, advising on scientific advancements and their ethical implications. He is the author of the bestselling novel Einstein’s Dreams and The Diagnosis, which was a National Book Award finalist. As the founder of Harpswell, a nonprofit promoting women leaders in Southeast Asia, Lightman is deeply committed to social change. Additionally, he hosts the PBS series Searching: Our Quest for Meaning in the Age of Science and has been awarded six honorary doctorates for his contributions.
