SCOTT PAGE: Blending Music, Tech, and the Future of Blockchain

    Interview highlights:

Scott Page, a legendary saxophonist known for his work with Pink Floyd, Toto, and Supertramp, has seamlessly woven his musical legacy with a pioneering entrepreneurial spirit. In a recent audio interview, Page shared captivating stories from his career, insights into the transformative power of blockchain and AI, and his vision for the future of art and business. This article captures the essence of his dynamic journey, from iconic stages to cutting-edge tech ventures.

A Musical Odyssey with Pink Floyd and Beyond

Page’s time with Pink Floyd during their *A Momentary Lapse of Reason* tour in 1987 remains a defining chapter in his life. “It was unbelievable,” he said, describing the surreal experience of performing alongside David Gilmour, whom he considers a “musical guru.” Gilmour’s mastery of melody and simplicity profoundly influenced Page, particularly evident in iconic solos like the one in *Comfortably Numb*. “If you took that solo out, it’d feel like a verse was missing,” he noted, underscoring its emotional weight.

The global reach of Pink Floyd’s brand left a lasting impression. Page recalled the “key to the universe” tour pass that opened doors worldwide, from sold-out restaurants to adoring fans who followed the band across continents. “We’d see the same faces in South France and Japan,” he said, marveling at the dedication of fans who carried albums for signatures. Intrigued by this phenomenon, Page filmed 150 hours of footage, much of it capturing fan interactions, which he later digitized and symbolically “sent to the moon” as part of his innovative art projects.

His early start in music, performing on *The Lawrence Welk Show* as a child, set the stage for a unique career. “I’m the only guy who’s played with both Pink Floyd and Lawrence Welk,” he said with a laugh, highlighting the eclectic nature of his journey.

From Music to Tech: A Serial Entrepreneur’s Path

Page’s career extends far beyond music. A self-described serial entrepreneur, he has launched four companies, including one that went public on NASDAQ. His ventures span multimedia, mobile messaging, and now Web3 technologies. “I’ve always tied music into my business,” he explained, emphasizing how his creative and entrepreneurial pursuits intersect.

One of his most ambitious projects is the *Golden Mullet*, a digital art piece comprising 7,000 digital twins, including Pink Floyd photos, launched to the moon on February 22, 2024. Valued at $5 billion due to its rarity and cultural significance, the *Golden Mullet* is tied to a decentralized finance (DeFi) model. Page described how 50% of its sale price would be embedded into a liquidity pool, generating monthly yields of 2.2% to 7.7% for investors. “This is a new way to buy art that generates revenue from day one,” he said, envisioning a future where real-world assets like art or buildings have built-in liquidity through blockchain.

Another project, *SynTopia.world*, is an AI-driven NFT platform that recently sold out its fourth collection. Page is also involved in *Sheba Wings*, a crypto diner in Australia with a token-based business model, and *DeFi Bank*, a hybrid liquidity pool venture. These initiatives reflect his belief that “tokens are about to eat the world,” revolutionizing ownership and wealth transfer.

    Navigating a Rapidly Changing World

Page’s advice to aspiring musicians and entrepreneurs is rooted in adaptability. “If you’re not figuring out how AI works, you’re going to be gone,” he warned, citing the disruptive potential of AI and blockchain over the next three years. He advocates for a “lean startup” approach, emphasizing testing and validating ideas before scaling. “Find the smallest thing you can do with the biggest impact,” he advised, encouraging focus on growth markets and authentic storytelling.

His *SPACEE* framework—Story, Plan, Army, Conversion, Education, Execution—guides his consulting work with artists and businesses. “What problem do you solve? What do you stand for?” he asks, urging creators to craft compelling narratives that resonate beyond their craft. For Page, every business, from music to food trucks, is now a media business requiring a strong story.

A Hail Mary Moment That Changed Everything

Page shared a pivotal “Hail Mary” moment from the 1980s when his company, Walt Tucker, was on the brink of collapse. With $150,000 in credit card debt and maxed-out resources, he attended Comdex in Las Vegas to pitch *Music Bytes*, a pioneering CD-ROM for multimedia presentations. Spotting an interactive educational title across the room, Page saw the future of multimedia and seized an opportunity to meet George Grayson, CEO of Micro Graphics and a Pink Floyd fan. After a weekend of discussions, Grayson wrote a $100,000 check, saving Page’s company. This led to the creation of the world’s first interactive cartoon with Howie Mandel and a successful NASDAQ public offering. “It was like Ed McMahon showing up at the door,” Page said, reflecting on the turnaround.

    Staying Ahead and Giving Back

To stay on track, Page surrounds himself with smart people and stays close to market trends. “I’m not the smartest guy in the room, but I’m good at putting the right people in it,” he said. He distinguishes between starters and finishers, identifying himself as a starter who relies on finishers to execute. His upcoming *Adapt or Die* livestream podcast will break down business models, tokenize them, and provide actionable plans for industries like liquor stores or yoga studios.

Page continues to perform, often tying gigs to blockchain conferences. Upcoming performances include the Cannes Film Festival, F1 events in Monaco, and a tour with his band *Think Ax*, featuring members from Jane’s Addiction and Fishbone. He’s also recording EDM tracks for *SynTopia*, blending horns with electronic beats.

A Call to Action: Embrace the Future

Page’s passion for education is evident in his recommendation to explore *Crypto Casey* on YouTube, particularly her *Bitcoin for Beginners* video, to understand blockchain and crypto. He encourages small investments in Bitcoin, citing its finite supply and institutional adoption as drivers of a potential bull market. “The biggest risk is not taking the risk,” he said, urging families to dollar-cost average into Bitcoin for long-term savings.

From his *Golden Mullet* on the moon to his DeFi ventures, Scott Page embodies the fusion of creativity and innovation. His journey—from playing with Pink Floyd to pioneering blockchain-based art—offers a roadmap for navigating a rapidly evolving world. As he prepares for his *Moon XP* exhibit and new music releases, Page remains a trailblazer, inspiring others to adapt, learn, and seize the opportunities of the digital age.
