In a world awash with celebrity tequilas and vodkas, actor Eric Winter is carving out a bold new path with rum—a spirit he believes is ready to steal the spotlight. During an exclusive chat with AMFM Magazine, Winter shared the story behind his premium rum brand, Palm Republic, and how his Puerto Rican roots, Hollywood hustle, and unyielding drive have fueled this spirited venture.
Winter’s love affair with rum began unexpectedly 20 years ago when he met his Puerto Rican wife and her father introduced him to an eight-year-aged rum. “I wasn’t a rum drinker,” Winter admitted, recalling that first sip. “But I went, ‘Wow, this is not what I expected.’ Premium rum is as complex as any whiskey or bourbon.” That moment sparked a passion that led to Palm Republic, a brand celebrating its one-year anniversary with award-winning blends from Panama, Jamaica, and the US Virgin Islands. “Rum is on the climb,” Winter declared, noting its growing popularity and versatility. From sipping it neat to crafting cocktails like an old fashioned or espresso martini, Palm Republic’s aged and silver rums are winning over skeptics, including Winter’s vodka-loving friends who now savor it on the rocks with a lime.
Unlike many celebrity-backed spirits, Winter emphasizes authenticity. “This is my baby,” he said, distancing himself from mere endorsements. “I’ve built this from the ground up with my partner.” The learning curve was steep, coming from the entertainment world, but Winter immersed himself in the spirits industry, visiting distilleries and studying regional techniques. His commitment to quality and authenticity has paid off, with Palm Republic earning accolades and a loyal following.
Beyond rum, Winter’s plate is full. He’s gearing up for season eight of The Rookie, premiering in January 2026, where he defied doubters to land his role—a true “Hail Mary” moment in his career. “They said, ‘You’re too nice for this guy,’” Winter recalled. “I’m like, ‘I’m an actor. I can play anything.’” His perseverance paid off, proving his versatility. Meanwhile, he and his wife run a production company, with her directorial debut, Dario, a Spanish-language love letter to Puerto Rico, set to premiere in August 2025. The film, which Winter produced and stars in, follows four friends rediscovering their bond on a road trip.
Winter’s advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and actors? “Never give up,” he said, reflecting on his 20-year career filled with more “nos” than “yeses.” His drive comes from a desire to inspire his two children and leave a legacy of hard work. “I’m doing this to bring people together—family, friends,” he shared.
