Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Light of the World, the new animated film about Jesus that tells the classic story of the messiah in a beautifully simplistic way. Co-directed by Tom Bancroft, who was part of the animation department for many Disney classics like Aladdin, The Lion King, and Beauty & the Beast, the film has that beloved 2D look that would fit right alongside those generational favorites but certainly with a deeper meaning. While the story of Jesus has been told in many ways over the years with varying degrees of quality, this does the story justice with top-tier animation with the heart in the right place being backed by a ministry that intends to give back. It’s simple enough for kids to understand but with the right connective tissue to grab the adults as well – especially since many will identify with the classic look and feel. It will also serve as interesting counterprogramming this weekend to The Conjuring: Last Rites, but that makes perfect sense historically. General audiences should enjoy this and while some non-believers may find reasons not to see it, the message is universal and should not be discounted. This is indeed a film for the whole family that should be seen on the big screen. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
