Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Thunderbolts, the new Marvel flick that sees a second-rate group of superheroes having a second-rate adventure and guess what? It’s pretty second-rate. Now of course there’s a whole more serious plotline that goes into the dark psychological explanations of why certain superheroes and villains are who they are and the awful things they went through but it’s no fun. And no not all superhero movies have to be fun, light, and fantastical but sometimes it’s nice to have some escapism especially given the state of the world. As an avid comic book reader as a kid and someone who looks forward to these things and knows the origin of a lot of characters, it’s still not the movie it could have been. Sure, if you like Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, or even Wyatt Russell, you might enjoy their performances but a lot of jokes seem to fall flat and Pugh’s and Harbour’s fake Russian accents just grate after a while. Some may call it more relevant or meaningful, but I found it kind of dull and given the talent and potential, it really was disappointing. Where are our real superheroes when we need them? That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
