In a ballroom buzzing with innovators, scientists, and changemakers, Torrei Hart lit up the stage as emcee for the EarthX 2026 Gala — not just with her signature humor, but with a refreshing honesty that bridged Hollywood glamour and environmental urgency.
Fresh off a night sharing the stage with legends like Ed Begley Jr. and Jeff “Skunk” Baxter, the actress, producer, comedian, and newly minted environmentalist sat down with AMFM Magazine to reflect on her unexpected journey to EarthX. “I got invited to be the emcee for the gala, so my job was to come in and entertain and have people have a good time,” she shared. “That’s the world that I’m used to. Seeing all of these people here that talk about the environment… it’s like a different world for me.”
From Skeptic to Steward
Hart, who grew up in North Philadelphia, admits she once questioned the reality of climate change. “I used to question global warming… They’re just trying to make something up,” she recalled. Living in Los Angeles shifted her perspective. “I remember when I first moved to LA, it was a lot warmer in certain months than it is now. So it definitely has changed.” She’s felt it in Dallas too: “It gets really, really unreasonably hot and sometimes it seems like even more so than it’s ever been.”
Her message at EarthX was clear — environmental stewardship isn’t partisan. “We’re all stuck on this planet. It doesn’t matter what we believe in.”
A Star Since Age Six
Hart’s path to the spotlight began early. At just six years old, she told her blue-collar Philadelphia parents she was moving to Hollywood to become a star. “There was no Instagram, no Facebook… my parents were looking like, ‘Okay, girl, whatever.’” But she proved them wrong, immersing herself in theater, church plays, and relentless work.
That perseverance has defined her career. When asked for advice to aspiring talents, her response was straightforward: “Do the work… It’s really about the work. You make the right connections. Yes, it takes a little bit of luck, but if you don’t ever do the work… how will you know?” She added with characteristic fire, “Don’t quit. I’ve been doing this for a long time and literally like this year, I’m seeing some of my biggest breaks.”
The Ultimate Hail Mary
One of those breakthroughs came via an unlikely route. Hart’s appearance on a reality show caught the eye of then-First Lady Michelle Obama, leading to a White House invitation. “I asked her, ‘Why me?’ She was like, ‘Because you’re funny and I wanted to meet you. I can’t do politics all day, every day.’” Hart beamed recounting the memory: “Everybody that was like, ‘Don’t do reality’… Look, I’m at the White House with Michelle Obama.”
Mindset, Faith, and Forward Motion
Hart credits daily affirmations and a strong spiritual foundation for keeping her grounded. “I look in the mirror and be like, ‘You are a badass. You are funny. You are beautiful, you are smart…’ I do that literally probably three times a day.” One of her guiding quotes comes from Lao Tzu: “He who angers you controls you.” She chooses positivity instead.
A deeply spiritual person, Hart keeps politics at arm’s length. “I think once you reach a certain level in politics, they’re all communicating together behind the scenes anyway. I believe in God. I trust in God… If you ask for what you want, you will receive it.”
Projects on the Horizon
Fans can catch Hart in several current releases, including Whisper in the Pines, Super Turnt, Turnt AF, and Love Don’t Pay the Bills (available on Tubi and Amazon Prime). But she’s especially excited about her latest venture, Coastal Cowboys, a treasure-hunting series she co-created with business partner Matt Ables. Filmed in Corpus Christi and set around Padre Island’s legendary “Money Hill,” the show features colorful characters including Brad Freeland and Coffey Anderson. “This show is going to be a hit, a major hit like Duck Dynasty,” she predicted.
