This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is Ferrari, a film about Enzo Ferrari, the legendary carmaker that had quite an interesting life – but unfortunately not the most interesting film about it. Adam Driver does a fine job as Ferrari as does does Penelope Cruz as his long-suffering wife and business partner, who cracks under the pressure of the web of lies and deceit and has some tricks up her sleeve herself. It’s really a better display for her than it was for him but the most perplexing part is just how slow and low octane the movie is, especially under the direction of the great Michael Mann. Save from a couple of tragic scenes with some action that doesn’t end well, not too much happens. It’s mostly internal drama that is kept from the world and from each other and a display of a man that seemingly cared more about the work than himself or his family. You almost wonder who to root for. While it’s not a bad movie, you just get the feeling that it could have been so much more engaging and probably an awards contendor with some tweaks, especially given that the subject has been that of a couple of films in recent times already and really needed to rise above.
