THE END OF OAK STREET Movie Minute Review

This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is The End of Oak Street, the big dinosaur flick that’s been the nice surprise of the summer movie season. Starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, the story follows a family in the 80s that has to band together – you know, without modern technology – to figure out why their neighborhood has been put back in prehistoric times with dinosaurs and other creatures causing chaos everywhere. Written and directed by David Roger Mitchell, who’s now 3 for 3 after It Follows and Under the Silver Lake, this one delivers masterful suspense and some wild action with some great effects while still keeping the nostalgia of the 80s and feel of a classic Amblin film with a Twilight Zone twist. It’s one of those that makes you think, “They just don’t make movies like this anymore.” It’s fast, fun, full of personality with memorable characters and really takes over this segment now that the Jurassic Park films have lost their steam. It’s definitely got the J.J. Abrams touch with a nod to Spielberg and Joe Dante, which is a great thing. It’s probably the best popcorn flick this summer. See it on the biggest screen possible. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM MAGAZINE, and RECRD.
