Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Caught Stealing, the wild new action crime caper from the brilliant director Darron Aronofsky starring Austin Butler that’s violent, funny, absolutely nuts in places, and thoroughly entertaining. The story follows a young guy that was on the path to becoming a baseball star when a tragic wreck derailed his life and career. Now a bartender in New York, he fumbles along until he accidentally gets involved with some criminals by being in the right place – at home trying to help a friend – but at the wrong time. His world gets turned upside down when he gets on the radar of some sadistic criminals and now everyone around him is in danger and he’s suddenly thrust into a seedy underworld that he’s not equipped to deal with – or is he? Butler’s charisma is off the charts and Zoe Kravitz, Regina King, Griffin Dunne, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, and Vincent D’Onofrio are fantastic in the supporting roles – as is the cat, which is a crowd pleaser. This grimy ’90s New York throwback thriller feels fresh and is absolutely worth a trip to the theater. That’s it for this week.
