After more than four years of labor and love—beginning with Shawn Ryan’s first meeting with Jon Hamm in April 2022—American Hostage has finally reached screens. Paul Salfen talks with Ryan, co-creator/co-showrunner Eileen Myers, and director/EP Adam Arkin about the long haul from acclaimed podcast to MGM+ psychological thriller, the game-face intensity of a cold Winnipeg shoot, a stellar cast led by Hamm as radio reporter Fred Heckman and Giovanni Ribisi as Tony Kiritsis, and the deliberate choice to humanize every side of a harrowing true story rather than deliver easy answers. The eight-episode series premiered with two episodes on September 20, 2026, and continues weekly through November 1.
