This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Star Wars: TheMandalorian and Grogu, the standalone Star Wars flick based on The Mandalorian TV series on Disney+ and well, it’s basically a few episodes compiled and disguised as a film but it’s not that remarkable. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t do anything super interesting, groundbreaking, or move the story forward. Lots of style, very little substance. It’s not even as interesting as the first season was at that. For those of us brought up on Star Wars films, it’s kind of a letdown – sure, Grogu is cute, Mando is pretty cool, and it’s nice to see Sigourney Weaver in this universe and more Hutts – but honestly, theHutt Jeremy Allen White played could have been anyone. It’s also quite slow in places and could have been at least 20 minutes shorter. In other words, with a setup designed to make you want to buy toys, it doesn’t make you want to rush out and put them on your desk. The moment has passed – Grogu isn’t the cute new thing anymore and doesn’t have much to do and Mando is, well, a little one-sided. At no point does it give you that giddy feeling that it should. Basically, if you’ve seen the show, you’ve seen this already, which seems like a big missed opportunity. That’s it for this week.
