This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is The Monkey, the new super bloody horror flick based on a Stephen King story directed by newly minted master of horror Osgood Perkins, who brought us Longlegs and so happens to be the son of Anthony Perkins, who was Norman Bates in Psycho. This story follows two brothers that get a toy monkey that when wound up brings a bunch of grisly deaths nearby soon after. They throw the monkey away and years later, it comes back to haunt them. Theo James is actually really strong in this one as both roles and there are a few fun cameos here but at its core, this one has all of the right elements but goes extreme horror comedy and away from the more highbrow horror of Longlegs. It’s really dark all the way to the last moment and may not be for everyone but gorehounds will probably eat this up. But fair warning, this may not be the movie to see at a dine-in theater like I did. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
