THE LITTLE MERMAID: Movie Minute Review

    Review by Paul Salfen

his is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is The Little Mermaid, the live action reimagining of the Disney animated classic. While there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the movie due to the leading lady pick, rest assured there’s nothing to worry about. Halle Bailey looks beautiful and her voice is amazing – and she’s surrounded by amazing talent like Javier Bardem and the absolutely wonderful Melissa McCarthy – oh, and let’s not forget Daveed Digs, Awkwafina, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The underwater sequences are magical and the story and music generally stay true to the source material, with some expected liberties taken – and it would at almost an hour longer with several new songs added. Director Rob Marshall is a master of this and he wasn’t about to let this adaptation sink – and don’t think Disney would either. This is one for the whole family – any family to enjoy and to sing along to, laugh with, and cry to – it’s quite a spectacle. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
