This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Elio, the new Pixar film which is thankfully predictably colorful, cute, and sweet. It follows a young boy with a space and alien obsession that has lost his parents and his aunt takes charge and she happens to be in the orbit of the space program and after unanswered attempts at reaching out for a space buddy since he can’t find one at home, he intercepts a message that sends him on a journey where his wish finally comes true – but it’s not without a lot of intergalactic and earthly complications. The heart of the story is in the family dynamics which deal with loss, identity, and a sense of belonging and it’s filled with fun creatures, a lovable lead, and some moments that really pull at the heartstrings. While it may not be Pixar’s absolute best and may not break any new ground, it’s certainly better than most family films and definitely worth a trip with the family to the theater. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
