DOT CONNER: WEBTECTIVE Brings Faith, Fun, and Mystery to the Big Screen

    Interview by Paul Salfen

On September 19, 2025, families across the country will have the chance to experience Dot Conner: Webtective, a new independent Christian film that promises to captivate audiences with its blend of adventure, mystery, and heartfelt values. Directed by Andrew and Jae Huff, this stand-alone feature, inspired by the hit web series, delivers a fresh story that’s both entertaining and meaningful. In a recent interview with AMFM Magazine’s Paul Salfen, lead actress Eli Gould shared her passion for the project, offering a glimpse into why this film is a must-see for families seeking wholesome, inspiring entertainment.

    A Story That Resonates

Dot Conner: Webtective follows the adventures of Dot Conner, a curious and clever young detective who uses her sharp mind and faith-driven heart to solve mysteries. Gould, who plays Dot, describes the role as a natural fit. “I loved playing detective, and I loved watching mystery shows and reading any mystery book out there,” she told Salfen. “Playing this character has been the most natural and just also the most fun role that I’ve had the opportunity to have.”

The film’s appeal lies in its ability to balance fun with a deeper message. Gould emphasized that Dot Conner: Webtective shows kids that “Christianity is fun.” She hopes young viewers will see that faith isn’t just about following rules but about embracing curiosity and finding joy in exploring God’s creation. “God gave us curiosity for a reason,” Gould said, highlighting how the film encourages children to seek out the gospel and engage with the world around them in a meaningful way.

    A Family-Friendly Adventure

Created with families in mind, Dot Conner: Webtective is the kind of movie parents can feel great about sharing with their children. Directors Andrew and Jae Huff set out to craft a story that’s smart, engaging, and rooted in values they’d want their own kids to embrace. The film takes unexpected twists, keeping audiences guessing until the very end while celebrating the creativity and intelligence of its young characters.

One of Gould’s favorite moments from filming was a dynamic scene involving “flash sequences on a scooter,” which she described as her most memorable day on set. Another highlight was reuniting with the cast, including Drew Waters, who plays Dot’s on-screen dad. “He’s the best,” Gould said of Waters, a friend of the show and a familiar face in Christian media.

Staying True to Faith in a Challenging Industry

As a young Christian actress, Gould spoke candidly about the challenges of staying true to her values in the film industry. “There’s very few opportunities for Christian actors, especially those who really want to stay true to their morals,” she shared. Turning down tempting roles that don’t align with her faith can be difficult, but Gould finds greater fulfillment in projects like Dot Conner: Webtective. “Taking Christian roles and just being in Christian films is so much more fulfilling than just experiencing the fame,” she said.

Gould’s journey into acting began in first grade when she played Dorothy in a school production of The Wizard of Oz. That experience sparked a love for performing, which she describes as “playing dress up to the extreme.” Her advice to aspiring actors? Persevere through rejection and trust that closed doors lead to better opportunities. “For every 100 no’s, you’ll get one yes,” she said. “Instead of taking those no’s and those rejections as just like a mark against you, it’s more just a new opportunity.”
    A Leap of Faith

For Gould, Dot Conner: Webtective represents a personal “Hail Mary” moment, coinciding with her transition into her first year of college. Balancing acting with being a full-time student is no small feat, but Gould trusts in God’s timing. “I always said going into college that I was going to go wherever the Lord takes me,” she said. “It’s no coincidence at all that [the film is]releasing right when I start college.”

The film’s release is a milestone not just for Gould but for the independent Christian film industry. Produced outside traditional Hollywood structures, Dot Conner: Webtective was funded, created, and distributed independently to preserve its heartfelt message. As an indie film, its success relies heavily on word-of-mouth and strong opening weekend attendance. Families are encouraged to secure tickets starting September 10, 2025, at https://www.dotconner.com/ and experience this adventure on the big screen in select theaters.

A Bright Future for Christian Media

With talks of a potential sequel already in the air, Gould is optimistic about the film’s impact. “Depending on how this movie goes, I think it can be an amazing success,” she said. “I think that fans are going to want a second movie.” Whether or not a sequel materializes, Dot Conner: Webtective is poised to open new doors for Christian media, offering a refreshing alternative that combines fun, faith, and family values.

As Gould looks to the future, she remains grounded in her faith. “I’m really just seeing what’s going to happen,” she said. “It’s really all in the Lord’s hands.” For now, audiences can join Dot Conner on her thrilling journey when Dot Conner: Webtective hits select theaters on September 19, 2025. Don’t miss this chance to support a film that celebrates curiosity, creativity, and the joy of living out one’s faith.
