Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Superman, the highly anticipated reboot of the beloved superhero franchise that has been hit or miss over the years so it’s been a nervous anticipation for fans but have no fear – the leaked review was way off base – this one is a winner. David Corenswet is a great Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnohan is a fantastic Lois Lane – but together their chemistry is really a saving grace of the movie. And the dog? It could have gone really bad but Krypto was a hit and probably will be a staple of the films in the future – not to mention a great revenue stream with the toy and plush possibilities. Then there’s Nicholas Hoult, who turned out to be a fine Lex Luthor and Edi Gathegi was a big surprise hit as Mr. Terrific. Here, Superman must wrestle with a surprise in his Kryptonian heritage and embrace his more human Clark Kent side to be the hero he’s meant to be. As for those worrying that it’s too political or has an agenda, sure, there are parallels to what’s going on right now in the world but the script came before the almost exact match. Writer-director James Gunn just nailed the feel of the times, which is fortunate given Superman could have easily been seen as way outdated. This is a perfect fun summer film for just about anyone and is definitely worth a trip to see it on the biggest screen possible. That’s it for this week.
