Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is Weapons, the twisty new horror flick from Zach Cregger, the director of Barbarians, who further cements his place in horror as a fresh new voice. Julia Garner stars as a teacher who faces the wrath of an angry mob of parents when all of the kids in her class disappear one night – except for one. What follows in this spooky tale is totally unexpected and won’t be ruined here but whatever you think will happen doesn’t, which makes for a great scary movie. Josh Brolin stars as a grieving father determined to find answers and Alden Erenrich plays a cop and love interest to Garner caught in the web but it’s Amy Madigan as Gladys that just kills it here and we’ll just leave it at that. It’s rare that a movie draws you in and keeps you there with this much intensity until the end. It’s definitely a surprise hit of the year and the best horror film so far – unless, of course, you consider Sinners a horror flick. Visually it gives you plenty that will stay with you and some scenes will stay with you days later. While incredibly violent at times, it’s overall more spooky and mysterious than anything. It’s definitely worth a trip to the theater to see how this one unfolds before someone spoils it. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
