The long-awaited feature creeps onto Digital and On Demand March 3 from Uncork’d Entertainment. In his first creature role since CBS’s The Incredible Hulk, global icon Lou Ferrigno returns to the screen—and steps into the horror genre for the first time—in the cannibal horror/thriller The Hermit.
In this dark horror tale with a quirky edge, Ferrigno plays a reclusive, cannibalistic pig farmer who makes and sells jerky made from human flesh. The film also stars Malina Weissman (Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events) and Anthony Turpel (Hulu’s Love, Victor), two familiar faces for younger genre fans.
Synopsis: Dragged on a vacation to the woods, teenagers Lisa and Eric’s outing quickly spirals into a nightmare as they fight for their lives against an unstoppable cannibal pig farmer.
“I’m very excited to announce my first horror film, The Hermit,” says Lou Ferrigno. “I’ve always been a big fan of scary movies and I hope this one will be on everyone’s list to watch!”
The Hermit is directed by U.S.-based Italian director Salvatore Sclafani and produced by Gerry Pass of Chrome Entertainment alongside Sclafani’s First Child Prods. The Hermit marks Sclafani’s first English-language feature production, following the 2019 thriller Tyger Tiger starring Dylan Sprouse.
“Lou Ferrigno delivers a performance that horror fans won’t see coming,” says Keith Leopard, President of Uncork’d Entertainment. “THE HERMIT is dark, action-packed, and wildly entertaining. It’s exactly the kind of bold genre film our audience loves and we can’t wait for viewers to experience it this March.”
In an exclusive, heartfelt conversation with AMFM Magazine’s Paul Salfen, Ferrigno opened up about the role, drawing deep personal parallels to his own life. The character—a near-deaf hermit possessed by his mother’s dark influence, longing to be left alone yet driven by inner demons—mirrors the bullying and negativity Ferrigno faced as a child. “The character was very close to the demon that is in my life,” he shared. “Growing up as a kid, being bullied, being told that you never been born… stuff like that.”
Ferrigno explained how the role allowed him to channel that past pain: “When I got the script… he just wants to be left alone.” He stayed in character on set, avoiding interactions with co-stars to heighten the isolation. The physical transformation—long hair, beard, and makeup—took hours, but Ferrigno embraced the challenge in a remote, difficult location where cabins were built to capture the eerie authenticity.
The film resonates with Ferrigno’s lifelong love of horror icons like Frankenstein and the Wolf Man. “I relate to Frankenstein,” he said. “He didn’t mean to be the way he was… That’s my hermit. You feel for him because you can see the very troubled human being.” He emphasized that true monsters are often human, and audiences connect with villains who carry inner demons.
Ferrigno’s journey from bullied child to icon is inspiring. Told he’d “never amount to anything,” he defied the odds through passion and self-competition. “You don’t compete with other people. Compete with yourself,” he advised aspiring talents. His “Hail Mary” moment? Winning Mr. Universe against all negativity: “It was like being reborn… I finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Even at 74, Ferrigno maintains remarkable energy and shape—40 minutes of cardio and light training 3-4 days a week, prioritizing consistency. “Once you get to the gym, it’s 50% the battle,” he noted.
The role in The Hermit feels like reinvention. “At the age of 74, I have a whole new future ahead of me,” he reflected. Upcoming projects include Hard Redemption, Orchid (about Alzheimer’s), Jim, and The Flash Before the Bang. Ferrigno continues motivating fans through conventions, autograph signings, and his work as a deputy sheriff.

From the green rage of the Hulk to the bearded terror of the Hermit, Lou Ferrigno proves it’s never too late to redefine yourself. Catch The Hermit now on Digital and On Demand— and see a legend embrace his darkest side.
