Interview by Paul Salfen

NEW YORK, December 8, 2021—The Museum of Modern Art’s 2022 Film Benefit, presented by CHANEL, honored Academy Award–winning director Guillermo del Toro on December 8. CHANEL collaborated with MoMA on the fifteenth annual Film Benefit to celebrate Del Toro and his acclaimed work.

The gala featured a tribute to the director from Jessica Chastain, Richard Jenkins, Finn Wolfhard, Gregory Mann, and MoMA’s Chief Curator of Film, Rajendra Roy, along with pre-recorded well-wishes from Cate Blanchett, Alejandro Iñárritu, Ewan McGregor, and Tilda Swinton.

Guests were treated to a preview of Guillermo Del Toro: Crafting Pinocchio, an exhibition that gives a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process behind del Toro’s new film, opening at MoMA on December 11.

Paul Salfen attended the CCA Press Conference on behalf of AMFM Magazine, Drew Pearson Live and Record, saw the premiere of the film, and brought back stunning images, as well as hilarious impromptu analogy for young filmmakers (see end of video).
