This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters now is Pressure, the film about a pre-presidential Dwight D. Eisenhower during D-Day in WWII and a decision that could have altered history. Brendan Fraser takes on the big role of Ike and does a fine job but it’s Andrew Scott as James Stagg that steals the show from the beloved Oscar winner. While forecasting the weather doesn’t seem like tense film fare, it really is. Even though we know D-Day was the 6th of June and they were planning it for another day so you can guess what happens, it’s still a pretty fascinating story. While a wartime movie, the real battle here is behind the scenes. It’s a strong character driven story with Fraser, Scott, and Kerry Condon under the tight direction of Anthony Maras. It’s a relatively short film given the subject – in fact, it seems it could have been longer – something rare to say in war epics, but this is just a down-to-business story that doesn’t drag on and respects its limits and gives the delivery it needs and lets you go. It also comes along at a good time to remember the sacrifices made by those that gave their lives for us during this landmark time in our country. That’s it for this week.
