Review by Paul Salfen
This is Paul Salfen with your KLAK Movie Minute. In theaters this weekend is The Conjuring: Last Rites, the final film in the series that follows the real life Ed and Lorraine Warren, the celebrated paranormal investigators played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, that has spooked many audiences and will continue to do so with this creepy last chapter. This part focuses on the Smurl family, that dealt with a horrifying demonic possession case in their house in the 80s and when the Warrens’ daughter gets involved with the family, they have to help. It’s an atmospheric fun retro spooktacular experience that’s got a surprising amount of heart and despite the evil imagery, has quite a bit of good in the end. Michael Chaves, who directed the last Conjuring film as well as The Nun II and The Curse of La Llarona knows what he’s doing and while he may not have the bite that producer James Wan had with the first two films, he knew how to finish the job. All of the boxes are checked here including yes, an appearance by Annabelle. It’s a fun trip to the movies and a great way to kick off spooky season. That’s it for this week. Join me next week and every week for another Movie Minute right here on 97.5 KLAK, AMFM Magazine, and RECRD.
